Hosanna 2020 En Primeur – ‘The best ever?’

  • Hosanna has been released at £1,000 per 12×75 (£500 x6) SIB.
  • The release price of the 2020 is a decrease of -4.7% on the 2019’s initial offer and makes the 2020 3% less expensive than the 2019 at its current Market Price.
  • The new vintage has been scored 99-100 by James Suckling, who wondered it might be the “best ever” produced by the Pomerol property.

The release price of the 2020 is very slightly down on the price of the 2019 when it was first offered.

Hosanna has been released along with several others in the Moueix stable, including Château Bourgneuf and Château Peymouton but not yet La Fleur-Pétrus or Bélair-Monange.

The wine has been scored 99-100 by James Suckling, who said it showed, “very intense, old-vine character with bark, black mushroom and dark fruit”. Might it be the estate’s “best ever?” he asked.

James Lawther MW for JancisRobinson.com scored the wine 17.5, noting its, “purity and precision on the nose”, as well as its, “velvety smooth” texture and tannins. He also questioned whether it had “less lift” than the 2019 however.

Given its score from Suckling, the new release looks well-pitched and will no doubt still look compelling if it receives at least 97 from Neal Martin and other critics. The 2012 meanwhile also looks to offer good value, rated as highly as the 2019 and 2016 but with a market price of £1,020 a dozen.

Alongside the latest Hosanna, Château Bourgneuf was released at £500 per 12 (£225×6), and Château La Serre likewise. Château Plince is out at £285 per dozen, Château Chantalouette for £180 per 12 and Château Peymouton for £145 per 12.
