Wines from the 2019 vintage in Southern Rhone are now being released.

Beaucastel 2019 is being offered in the UK at £550 per 12×75, up 1.9% on last year’s release (£540 per 12×75).

The wine is yet to be scored by major critics. The producer, Famille Perrin, have said that this is “a great vintage of Beaucastel”, and an “impressive wine full of complexity”.

In a report published in early October, Jeb Dunnuck claimed that the Southern Rhone “will be a step up over the 2018s and offer more depth, concentration, and richness, all while showing considerable purity of fruit and elegance”. According to him, “2019 appears to be a beautiful, possibly exceptional, vintage for the Southern Rhône”. Dunnuck is expected to review the wines in 2021.

Beaucastel has been the second most actively traded wine by value from the Rhone so far this year, led by its 2017 and 2016 vintages.

At this price point, today’s release sits 14.5% above the 2017 and 10.4% above the 2018, but 14% below the 97-point WA 2016.

Buyers looking for something with a bit of age might also wish to consider the 96-point 2012, available at a similar price level.
