Solaia 2017 has been released at €168 per bottle ex-negociant, up 1.8% on last year’s release (€165). The wine is expected to be offered by the international trade for £2,055 per 12×75, down 2.1% on the 2016’s opening price per case (£2,100).

The 2017 vintage received 95 points from The Wine Advocate’s Monica Larner, who described it as a “bouquet-driven wine”, “very accessible in terms of mouthfeel, showing a comparatively thinner and shorter approach”.

Antonio Galloni (Vinous) also rated the wine 95+ points, and noted that “even in the early going […] it shows all the richness and opulence that is typical of the year, with terrific aromatic expansiveness and tons of persistence”.

For James Suckling (97pts), the 2017 Solaia is “fresh and well framed”.

Prices for Solaia show 73% correlation to critic scores. Based on today’s release price, Solaia 2017 is coming to the market slightly above its implied ‘Fair Value’. The 2014 and 2012 vintages, which carry the same score, are available in the market below the £2k mark per case. Buyers looking for perfection might also wish to consider the 2015 and 2016 100-point vintages from Solaia that come at 25% and 24% premium respectively.
