Guiraud 2019 has been released this morning at €30 per bottle ex-négociant, down 3.8% on the 2017 release. The wine is being offered at £396 per 12×75, representing a 2.1% increase on the 2017 release of £388 per case.
There was no Guiraud ‘first wine’ made during the Sauternes 2018 vintage after a deluge of hail on the night of the World Cup Final destroyed 95% of the Chateau’s crop. The remaining crop was used, albeit in small volumes, for their dry wine (Le G de Guiruad) and second wine (Petit Guiraud).
James Suckling is currently the only critic to have assessed the 2019 vintage and awarded the wine a barrel range of 94-95 points. In his tasting note he described the wine as “balanced and bright”.
This year’s Guiraud is entering the market as the second most expensive wine, trailing the 2008 vintage at £399 per case. Only £129 separates the most expensive vintage (2008) from the least expensive vintage (2007), with all others falling in between.
Buyers following the scores of James Suckling may look towards the 2017 vintage, which he awarded 95 points. It is currently available in bottle and slightly cheaper than the newest release.
