Trade for all major regions dipped by value this week, except for Bordeaux (up from 53.8% to 64.6%) and the ‘others’ category which returned to its February levels. The trade and critics will soon be in Bordeaux to taste the 2018 vintage, with the En Primeur campaign unfolding over the coming months.

On this note, this week we published Gavin Quinney’s update on Bordeaux 2018 production levels. In his article, Quinney explains what the numbers tell us about the quality and quantity of the vintage. However, the full picture will emerge in April when the trade and critics taste the wines.

Haut Brion 2009 was the most active wine this week. It last traded at £6,200 per 12×75; our blog on 2009 First Growths ten years on explores its price variations in more detail. The wine received 100 points in Lisa Perotti-Brown’s (The Wine Advocate) ten years on retrospective, published yesterday. Neal Martin also praised the wine in his report, “A Test Of Greatness: 2009 Bordeaux Ten Years On”, describing it as a “wondrous example of the vintage”.

Jay Z’s Armand Brignac Brut Gold NV (Ace of Spades) took the second spot in the most traded wines by value this week. As we noted in our Champagne report, bubbles have long been favoured by rappers. Louis Roederer Cristal 2008 was also active and last traded at £1,740 per 12×75.

This week saw the release of another Champagne – Bollinger Grande Anne 2008, which was offered in the UK at £800 per 12×75. You can find our price analysis on the release, here.
