Critics’ scores

The 2021 Lafleur has been one of the most consistently highly rated wines of the vintage. Neal Martin (Vinous) scored it 96-98 points saying that Baptiste and Julie Guinaudeau ‘have conjured not just one of the finest Pomerols of 2021, but one of the finest Bordeaux wines’.

Antonio Galloni (Vinous) scored it 95-97 points, saying it brushed off the challenges of the vintage ‘like water off a duck’s back’.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW (The Wine Independent) gave the wine a score of 95-97, calling it a ‘jaw-dropping achievement’.

‘A monument in the making,’ said William Kelley (Wine Advocate), who gave it 96-98 points, while Jane Anson awarded it 97-points.

Fair Value analysis

Today’s opening price comes at around a 35% discount to the price implied by Liv-ex’s Fair Value methodology. This makes Lafleur 2021 one of the best value vintages on the market for those lucky enough to secure an allocation.

Buyers might also be interested in the 100-point 2019. The 95-point 2014 also presents an attractive alternative and costs 23.2% less than today’s release.

Other releases

Alongside the Grand Vin of Lafleur were the 2020 vintages of ‘Les Pensées’ (£1,444 per 12×75) and ‘Les Perrieres’ (£584 per 12×75).

Other wines from the same stable include Grand Village Rouge (£158 per 12×75), which saw 33% drop in production volumes, as the Guinaudeaus family uprooted almost 6.5 hectares of vines.

Les Champs Libres (£612 per 12×75) and Grand Village Blanc (£180 per 12×75) were also released this morning.
