The most-searched-for wines on Liv-ex in 2021

  • Château Lafite Rothschild and Château Mouton-Rothschild are among the most-searched-for wines this year.
  • The Asian market has been the most single-minded in its searches and the US the most diverse.
  • The majority of vintages being looked for in the UK, US and Asia are from 2010 onwards, with only one pre-2000 vintage in the top 15.

‘On’ vintages of Lafite and Mouton-Rothschild have been the most-searched-for wines on the secondary market so far this year.

previous Market Update showed that Lafite has been the most researched wine label in 2021 overall across the main buying regions.

On an individual basis, however, buyers in the UK, US and Asia have had quite different shopping baskets to fill.

Most-searched-for wines by region

Asia in particular has been the most straightforward in its searches, with the top five all being Mouton-Rothschild between the 2000 and 2014 vintages.

The 2000 vintage has been a favourite in Asia since its release and it is the best-performing Mouton of all-time.

The UK by contrast has been a little more diverse, seeking out ‘on’ vintages of Lafite, the latest Sassicaia and 2008 Dom Pérignon – the 2008 Champagnes having proven very popular this year.

It has been the US which has shown the most diverse list of wines, including the only Burgundy in the top 15 look-ups from these three markets.

US buyers also showed an interest in Dom Pérignon but also a surprisingly high level of interest in the oldest wine searched for so far this year, the 1961 Le Pin. An interesting choice as the very first vintage was 1979.

Aside from the Le Pin, most of the wines being looked for have been post-2010 vintages, with Asia showing the most interest in pre-2010 vintages, which suits the market’s preference for older, ready-to-drink wines.
