By September 16, 2021Champagne, Fine Wine Market, Releases

The 2011 vintage of perennial Champagne favourite, Comtes de Champagne, has been released for £1,070 per dozen.

  • The 2011 Comtes de Champagne has been released at £1,070 (12×75).
  • James Suckling hailed it as, “a firm, fresh Comtes”.
  • The new release looks fair value in the context of its back vintages.

The latest vintage of Taittinger’s grande cuvée Comtes de Champagne has been released. The 2011 is being offered for £535 per six bottles (£1,070 12×75).

The wine will be available for shipping early next year.

Critical opinion

Few critics have released their scores for the new vintage. One who has is James Suckling. He rated the 2011 97-points, calling it: A firm, fresh Comtes with a tight and composed palate. It’s full-bodied with a racy mid-palate. Refreshing and energetic.”

Fair value

Comtes has proved an extremely popular label in the secondary market over the past decade. In terms of Fair Value, Comtes appears to have little correlation with either scores or age.

Nonetheless, with the exception of the 2005 (the weakest of the most recent vintages) Comtes de Champagne releases have largely held their value or gained handsomely.

The 98-point-rated 2002 and 2008 for example have risen 206% and 7.7% respectively since release; which for the 2008 was only last year.

A score of 97 slots the 2011 neatly into place for what is sure to be a popular release.
