Vieux Chateau Certan 2016 released

Vieux Chateau Certan 2016

Vieux Chateau Certan 2016 has been released at €192 per bottle ex-negociant, up 28% on 2015 (€150). It is being offered by the international trade at £2,364 per 12×75, a 43.3% increase in sterling terms on the 2015 release price of £1,650 per case.

Critics have highly praised this year’s offering. Neal Martin, who awarded a score of 95-97 points, commented that this is “a complex and cerebral Pomerol”. Antonio Galloni, who scored the wine higher, at 97-100 points, noted that this Vieux Chateau Certan is “is quite simply a remarkable wine.” Liv-ex members were also fond of the wine, ranking it as the 6th best of the vintage.

Prices for Vieux Chateau Certan are closely correlated to critic scores (Wine Advocate). Today’s release is being offered at a premium to the price suggested by Liv-ex’s ‘fair-value’ methodology. Given the presence of the potentially 100 point 2015 in the market, under both ‘fair-value’ and today’s release price, buyers may choose to stock up on last year’s vintage instead.
