Liv-ex Fine Wine 1000 drops 1.0% in January

Liv-ex 1000 sub-indices

The Liv-ex Fine Wine 1000 fell 1.0% in January. Six of its seven sub-indices drifted downwards, with the Bordeaux Legends 50 – which tracks classic vintages from 2000 and earlier – losing the most ground. Only Italian wines bucked the general trend, with the Italy 100 sub-index rising 0.6%. Italy accounted for over 7% trade by value on the Liv-ex exchange in January, ahead of all regions bar Bordeaux. Positive reviews from critics such as Stephen Tanzer and Antonio Galloni for the Barbarescos and Barolos 2009 and 2010 have boosted demand. While the Super Tuscans frequently take the spotlight, last month wines from Gaja saw good levels of trade.
