07 prices trickle out…

As the 2007 Bordeaux en primeur prices trickle out, it is fast becoming clear that the 15% drop in ex-negociant prices predicted by Liv-ex's members in the 2007 survey was somewhat optimistic. With a couple of the popular red wines now out, the general trend is for a reduction of between 0-5% for most. When this is translated into pounds and dollars, it works out as an increase in price compared to last year. The Bordeaux trade is currently preoccupied with Vinexpo Asia, afterwhich the campaign proper will begin. Despite recent reports suggesting that the market is turning its back on the campaign at these prices, there are no signs so far the rest of the campaign will buck the early trend.

You can see the latest London release prices for Pontet Canet, Gruaud Larose, Talbot, Lagrange St Julien and Beychevelle (alongside the release price for 2004, 2005 and 2006) here, as part of the Liv-ex 2007 Bordeaux pages. For those who are intested in the how these prices compare with the current prices for the previous five vintages, see here.
