Critical analysis

Monica Larner (The Wine Advocate) scored the wine 96-points. In her tasting note she said it was ‘a pure expression of organic Merlot and the estate’s headline wine’. She added that it had ‘aromas of cherry, toasted almond and dried mint fuel a long and very elegant finish’.

Jane Anson described it as: ‘Savoury and mouthwatering, benefitting from its 300m of altitude in the southern part of Tuscany by the Chianti hills’ and scored it 95-points. She added that it was ‘One of the first big 100% Italian Merlot wines after Masseto to be sold through the Bordeaux system, now its fifth vintage with négociants, and a wine that gives hope to those who worry that Merlot is becoming unviable in the heat of Italian summers’.

Meanwhile, James Suckling awarded the wine 97-points and said it had ‘plenty of dark berries and hints of chocolate’.

Fair Value

Buyers looking for other options have plenty to choose from. The 2017 and 2019 vintages were both scored slightly higher (97-points) and are available at a discount to today’s release.

With 98-points from the Wine Advocate, the 2015 vintage is also available at a slight discount.
