Monbousquet 2020 En Primeur – ‘charming’

  • Monbousquet has been released at £391 (12×75) SEP.
  • This is a 7.1% increase on its 2019 release price.
  • James Suckling called the wine “charming” and scored it 93-94.

Monbousquet was released alongside the other wines from the stable of Gerard Perse this morning, Pavie Decesse and Bellevue Mondotte.

Monbousquet 2020 was released at €32.40 per bottle ex-négociant, a rise of 8% on its 2019 release (€30). It is being offered for £391 per dozen, up 7.1% on the 2019 at release (£365) and £20% more than the 2019’s current Market Price of £324.

Rating and fair value

Monbousquet has been rated 93-94 by James Suckling who said it was, “linear and creamy with lovely, fine tannins” and it was scored 16+ by James Lawther MW for JancisRobinson.com.

A score equal to or better than the 2019 from Neal Martin will be needed to cement this release. The 2019 at a 20% discount looks to offer considerable value at present, while the 2014 and 2015 vintages are also well-positioned.

Jane Anson, meanwhile, rated the Monbousquet white that was also released a 92, saying it was “enjoyable” but “less weighty…than in certain vintages”.
