Marking another Sauternes offering today, Coutet 2018 has been released at €30 per bottle ex-negociant, up 8.7% on 2017’s opening price.
The wine is being offered by the international trade at £367 per 12×75, up 7.3% in sterling terms on the 2017 release price of £342.
James Suckling recently scored the wine a barrel range of 91-92, saying it was “medium-bodied and very sweet, but lacks a bit of botrytis for me.” The Wine Spectator’s James Molesworth gave it 90-93 points and described it as “lush, creamy and overt”.
At this price level, today’s release stands above most other vintages currently available in the market.
The 2005, for instance, which offers considerable bottle age, has a Market Price of £250 per 12×75 (32% discount) and a 92+ score from Robert Parker. The “magnificent Coutet” 2009, in Parker’s words, is also 7.4% cheaper.
Only the 2011, which Parker described as “sheer class and a classic Coutet” (94-96), is slightly more expensive than today’s release (+7.6%).
