The Liv-ex Fine Wine 100 Index closed July on 307.22, up just 0.04% on the previous month. The index is now at its highest level since October 2011 when it reached 308.03.

Aside from Masseto, the top movers last month were all from Bordeaux and Burgundy. Ponsot, Clos Roche 2012 was the top riser, up 11.6%. The 100-point Haut Brion 2005 (RP) reversed the losses it made in June.

Other 100-point Parker wines dipped: Smith Haut Lafitte 2009 and Haut Brion 2010 were down 4.2% and 6.4% respectively.

Leoville Poyferre 2010 was this month’s biggest faller, down 7.7%.

Changes to the Liv-ex Indices

July saw an update to the Liv-ex 100 index. To qualify, wines must have attracted critical acclaim from a leading critic (a 95-point score or above) and see regular activity on Liv-ex. The wines included in the index are reviewed annually by Liv-ex to ensure that they reflect market developments.

This year 17 wines have been removed to make way for newer vintages. The complete changes to the indices are shown in the tables below:
