2009 release round up

The en primeur campaign quickened its step this week with the release of some relatively big names, including Alter Ego Palmer (€34 p/b), Pagodes de Cos (€36 p/b), Armailhac (€27.6 p/b), Batailley (€20.5 p/b) and Gruaud Larose (€39.4 p/b). The biggest names, however, still appear to be a couple of weeks off.

Overall, releases are up 45% on 2008 (in euro terms) and 20% on 2005 – though several wines have risen by 30 or more. Equally striking is the fact that a number of 2009s – including Clerc Milon, Durfort-Vivens, Gazin, Giscours, Haut Batailley, Potensac and Sociando Mallet − have been released above the current trading price of the 2005s. A few have even exceeded the current levels of the 2000s…
