And the winnner is…

With the 2007 Bordeaux vintage now fully released (see here for a selection of the prices and scores) it is time for us to reveal the results of our annual release price competition.  A record number of entries from across the world were received and we would like to thank everyone who took part in the competition and accompanying survey.

In contrast to previous years, it was those who guessed lowest who came closest. For once the wines were priced below expectations, with 83% of respondents pricing the basket above the eventual price. Interestingly, it was the very best wines released later in the campaign that saw the biggest falls – the first growths, for example, were at least 25% cheaper in 2007 than in 2006 (if you are buying in euros). In total the basket was priced 29% lower than last year.

Liv-ex is an anonymous trading platform so, unfortunately, we can’t reveal the winner’s name. He did, however, get remarkably close, pricing the basket of wines at 1,4380.50 as opposed to the actual cost of 1,446 ( a difference of just 0.52%).  We hope he enjoys his prize:  a double magnum of 2004 Ducru Beaucaillou (pictured below).
