Look out for a new report into regional Italian trade and the current status of Lafite’s premium versus its fellow firsts in our forthcoming insights this week.

  • La Place, regional Italian trade and First Growths under the spotlight this week.
  • New report on smaller Italian regions to be published on Wednesday.
  • Lafite’s premium versus its fellow firsts – where is it now?

Our publishing schedule this week runs the gamut from the latest La Place releases, unique LWIN11 trade by region, the First Growth hierarchy and a look into Italy’s burgeoning trade diversity.

We begin the week with a quick recap of this month’s newest La Place releases. As the autumn programme in Bordeaux attracts ever more estates and labels, it’s worth keeping up to speed on  what’s now hitting the market each September.

Tomorrow (28th September) we’re also catching up on regional trade by distinct wines (LWIN11s) and seeing which countries and regions are either on pace to match or exceed their 2020 totals – and which may have done already.

Regional Italy

The long read of the week, exclusive to Liv-ex members, is an examination of trade in Italian wines beyond heavyweights Tuscany and Piedmont.

Although these two regions dominate Italian trade by volume and value, smaller Italian regions have seen a rise in wines trading of over 2,000% in the last decade.

Veneto, Umbria, Abruzzo, Puglia, Lazio and more all have much to offer enthusiasts and their secondary market journey is just beginning.

The report will be published on Wednesday 29th September and we published a free-to-read teaser last week.

Lafite – what’s the premium?

Casting your minds back to 2017, long-time readers may recall we looked at the premium Lafite commanded versus its fellow First Growths.

Once standing at 129%, this premium had dropped to just 24% in 2017. Where might it be now?
