Wine in special bottles remain in focus this week: Yesterday, a 12×75 case of Mouton Rothschild 2000 traded at £17,050. This a record high for the wine in standard bottle sizes.
In June, an imperial (6l) of Mouton Rothschild 2000 traded for £14,300 and last October a jeroboam (3l) traded for £5,718.
On Tuesday, Liv-ex looked at instances where special bottles had impacted wine prices on the secondary market. This followed the announcement from Chateau Margaux that their 2015 vintage would come in a commemorative bottle. In the post, we identified how Mouton Rothschild 2000, with its striking black and gold ram label, has been a consistently strong price performer.
The news of this latest trade indicates that the wine, which according to Robert Parker has “perhaps the most beautiful packaging ever on a Bordeaux bottle”, has shown no sign of slowing down.
