Champagne has been causing a stir lately – its market share reached a two and a half year high of 4.4% in June – and now Louis Roederer have released the Cristal 2005, with a price of £585 per 6×75. This marks the first of the major prestige cuvées to release the 2005, with Taittinger releasing its 2002 (LWIN 1083057) a couple of months ago: the champagne has seen steady trade on Liv-ex since then.
The chart below shows the current prices for the last five vintages of Cristal. As is expected, the price descends for newer champagnes – until we reach the 2005. Notably, the latest release is trading for a higher price than the 2004 (LWIN 1082542): you can get six bottles of the latter for just £530. Considering that the 2004 received positive critic scores across the board (18.5-19 from Jancis Robinson) and the 2005 has been released at a significantly higher price, it would seem that Cristal considers its newest vintage a success.
