The management team
James Miles
James Miles was born in Hong Kong and attended school and university in the UK. He started his career with Jardine Fleming Investment Management in Hong Kong in 1991, before becoming an equities analyst and strategist with Asia Equity (which later became Banque Paribas and then BNP Paribas). He moved to London in 1997 and left banking in March 2000 to set up Liv-ex.
Justin Gibbs
Justin Gibbs was born in Melbourne and attended school in Australia and the UK and university in Australia (BEc). He started his banking career with Asia Equity in London in 1994 as an institutional salesman, eventually running the UK Asian-facing client base for BNP Paribas. He left banking in March 2000 to set up Liv-ex with James Miles.
Anthony Maxwell
Anthony Maxwell was born in South Africa and brought up in France before moving to the UK aged 12. After leaving university, he worked for the Foreign Office in Geneva and the International Federation of Wines and Spirits in Paris. He then worked for John Armit Wines for eight years, running their trading department and private client sales department before joining Liv-ex in 2005.
Ashley Hopkins
Ashley Hopkins was born in London and has lived in the UK, Holland, and the USA. He started his career via a YTS fast track scheme at Charles Kendall Freight, later running their high tech supply chain division before the age of 22. In 2006 he moved to Nautilus INC., a NYSE company, and ran their International supply chain, before moving to Segen, a leading edge renewable energy distributor and installer in the UK. Ashley joined the team at Liv-ex in 2012 and now oversees both logistics and technology for the business.
Anish Chandaria
Anish grew up in Kenya, before coming to the UK in 1999 and qualifying as an accountant in 2001. He has 21+ years as a qualified accountant with a broad finance background split between both strategic and operational finance. After 10+ years in corporate finance, he joined an energy price comparison start up as Head of Finance in 2012. He has a number of operational finance roles, including CFO since. When he is not working Anish has a busy family life with two young children. Latterly he was CFO of LCAP – a leadership advisory business.
Nick Palmer
Nick Palmer was born & raised in London. He studied engineering at the University of Birmingham where a weekend job at a wine store turned into a passion. He has worked in private client sales and trading for the likes of Direct Wines and Armit Wines. After a segue into the technology & software sector in the 2010s he joined Liv-ex in 2016.
Richard Hemming
Richard is an experienced B2B marketer with a background in technology, media and professional services. He’s been instrumental in delivering growth at start-ups, enterprise level businesses, and others in between. His career started at BskyB, from where he went to IPC/Time Warner and Bauer Publishing before moving into marketing analytics and mobile ad tech. His enjoyment of wine is increasingly professional.
Dane Sunderland
Dane was born in Australia and lived there until 2010 when he moved to the UK. He has over 15 years’ experience in Logistics and Supply Chain having worked across multiple industries and overseeing operations in APAC, US, Europe and the UK. Dane joined Liv-ex in 2021 to oversee the Global Logistics Network and Settlement Services.
Clement Palle
Clement joined Liv-ex in 2013 as a System Analyst and progressed through the ranks to current role of leading the high-performing Engineering Teams. At his core, Clement is a strategic system-level thinker who evangelizes technology and agile principles that drives vision, innovation, and business functions. Leveraging both mainstream and emerging technologies, has played a pivotal role in revolutionizing how Liv-ex operates, from early cloud adoption to the latest microservices implementation.
Andreas Neder
Andreas Neder grew up in his family's winery in Germany and studied International Wine Business at Geisenheim university. His curiosity about data and dynamics of the fine wine led him to join Liv-ex in 2012. In 2016 Andreas decided to move back to Germany and has since been advising Liv-ex as a consultant
Robbie Stevens
Robbie Stevens was born in Oxford and attended school and university in the UK. Since leaving school he spent time living and working in Argentina, Spain, and Portugal where most latterly he worked with Symington Family Estates. He joined Liv-ex in 2014 and oversees the running of the Americas strategy, market and membership. He achieved his WSET Diploma in 2016 and has recently completed a cryptocurrency course with MIT.
Romain Grudzinski
Romain Grudzinski left France at 19 to study Mandarin Chinese in Beijing (北京师范大学). He then completed his Ba in Mandarin Chinese at SOAS and a MA in Politics at King’s College London. Rom joined Liv-ex in 2011 at the start of his career and has been helping to development the business since then. He looked after the Chinese and Hong Kong markets for many years before moving to head up the EU market in 2021.
Son Ngo
Son grew up in Vietnam and moved to the UK in 2010. After completing a degree in Accounting and Finance at Cass Business School, he started his career at PwC. Son qualified as an accountant in 2016 and left PwC after 6 years as Audit Manager. He then moved to Dentsu International as a Senior Group Accountant, focusing on Business Restructuring before moving to Liv-ex. Son is currently the President of VietPro, the Vietnamese professional network in the UK with over 4,000 members.
Toby Courtauld
After graduating from Cambridge University, Toby joined property company MEPC plc in 1991. He left MEPC in April 2002 to join Great Portland Estates as chief executive, a position he still holds today.
Greg Lockwood
Greg joined Liv-ex as a non-executive Director in September 2014. He is one of the founders of Piton Capital, the specialist venture capital investor in marketplaces, exchanges and businesses with network effects.
