Pichon Comtesse Réserve 2022 released En Primeur

  • Pichon Comtesse Réserve 2022 has been released for £432 per 12×75.
  • Neal Martin scored the wine 91-93 points and wrote that ‘you could almost drink this now!’.
  • Buyers looking for value might want to consider the 2017 and 2019 vintages.

As part of this year’s Bordeaux En Primeur campaign, Pichon Comtesse Réserve 2022 has been released at €36 per bottle ex-négociant, up 9.8% on the 2021 release (€32.80 per bottle).

It is being offered by the international trade for £432 per 12×75, a 7.5% increase on the 2021’s opening price (£402 a case).

Critics’ scores

Neal Martin (Vinous) gave the wine 91-93 points. In his tasting notes he mentions this wine ‘represents half the total production from the vineyard due to a stricter selection of the Merlot’. He adds ‘you could almost drink this now!’.

James Suckling awarded the wine a barrel range of 95-96 points. In his tasting note, he said ‘the palate is full and rich, but also agile and weightless, with tannins that are spread and pretty’.

Jane Anson gave the wine a score of 93 points and called it ‘impressive’ in her tasting notes.

Fair Value analysis

Today’s release is coming to the market at a premium to many back vintages available.

Buyers looking for value may want to consider the 2017 and 2019 vintages. Both were awarded 92 points by Neal Martin (similar to the 2022) and are available at a discount to today’s release.

The 91-point 2018 and 2020 also look attractive.
