Critics’ scores

Neal Martin (Vinous) awarded the wine a barrel range of 92-94 points, praising its ‘freshness on the finish’. While he writes that ‘the 2022 La Lagune really takes a while to settle in the glass’, he adds that ‘it should evolve into a fine La Lagune’.

‘An impressive vintage for the property’, notes Jane Anson (Inside Bordeaux), who scored the wine 94 points. She praises its ‘depth and reach’, highlighting the wine’s ‘Left Bank power’ and ‘intense tannic architecture’.

William Kelley (Wine Advocate) gave the wine a range of 93-95, calling the 2022 La Lagune ‘a modern-day version of the lovely 1990.’

Fair Value analysis

According to the Liv-ex ‘Fair Value’ methodology, La Lagune’s best correlation is with age rather than score (63%).

This means that vintages of La Lagune rise in value with age, making younger vintages a good buying opportunity.

According to the Fair Value chart, the 2020 might be of interest. It sits below the Fair Value line and is available at a discount of 30.8% to today’s release.

The 2017 vintage might also be interesting: was scored 91 points by Neal Martin and is available at a discount of 27.1% to the 2022.

While the 2019 sits slightly above the Fair Value line, it is available at a discount of 22.2% to today’s release with a score of 95 points. Neal Martin describes it as ‘wonderful’ and questions if it could ‘be the best La Lagune in years’.
