From Bordeaux, several vintages of Mouton Rothschild changed hands this week: the 2005, 2013, 2016 and 2019. The latter traded at an all-time high on Monday (packed as 1×150).

To coincide with Chinese New year, yesterday we looked at the top traded Bordeaux wines from the 2011 vintage – the last ‘rabbit’ year.

Today we look at the top-scoring 2011 wines from Asia’s favourite fine wine region, Bordeaux.

Despite the fact that the 2011 was an ‘underrated vintage’ for Bordeaux, several wines received high scores from the Wine Advocate.

Château Cheval Blanc 2011 was the top-scoring wine. William Kelley awarded it 97 points in August 2022. Kelley said: ‘while the 2009 and 2010 are more powerful and unctuous, readers who prize Cheval Blanc for its extraordinary complexity and unique perfume might well prefer the 2011, as it is a wine that could come from nowhere else.’

With a Market Price of £4,400 per 12×75, the wine has risen 8% in the past year.

As the table above shows, several wines have increased in price since 2022 when they celebrated 10 years in bottle.

Vieux Château Certan 2011, for example, was up 6%. The wine has also risen 40% since release and traded at an all-time high of £1,608 per 12×75 (packed as 6×75) in January.

The 2011 vintage has also been the best-performing Bordeaux vintage in 2022 (of Bordeaux’s 2010-2016 vintages).

The 2011 index, which is calculated using the Mid-Prices of the wines in the Bordeaux 500 index, has risen 12.4% over the past year.

By comparison, the next best performer is the 2014 vintage, which is up 10.4%.
