Critics’ scores

Neal Martin (Vinous) awarded today’s release a barrel range of 90-92 points. He said that ‘it has clean, focussed and correct bouquet’ and that the palate ‘feels cohesive and smooth’.

Antonio Galloni (Vinous) gave it 91-93 points and called it ‘impeccable’. He added that ‘if 2021 is an indication of where the estate is heading, that direction appears to be quite positive’.

William Kelley (The Wine Advocate) scored it 91-92+ points. He commented that ‘this is a fine effort that reminds Jean-Michel Laporte of the 2001 vintage in style – though the 2021 will benefit from all the improvements that the last two decades have witnessed at this address.’

The wine also boasts 92-93 points from James Suckling, 86-88+ from Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW (The Wine Independent) and 92 from Jane Anson.

Fair Value analysis

Prices for Talbot show stronger correlation (70%) to age than critic scores. Based on today’s release price, the wine is coming to the market at a slightly higher price than the 2020 vintage.

By comparison, the 2019 looks like one of the best value vintages on the market today. It has 94-points from Martin and is available for £420 per 12×75.

Buyers might also wish to consider the 2014 vintage, which offers several years in bottle and is available for a 5% premium to today’s release.
