As part of this year’s Bordeaux En Primeur campaign, Château Cos d’Estournel Blanc 2021 has been released at €106 per bottle ex-négociant, up 10.4% on the 2020’s opening price.

It is being offered by the international trade for £1,260 per 12×75. The new release offers value for score-conscious buyers but the 2018 and 2019 also look attractive. See more pricing analysis below.

Critics’ scores

Neal Martin (Vinous) awarded today’s release a barrel range of 92-94 points. He said this ‘has great potential’ and noted that the wine contains ‘slightly more Sauvignon Blanc this year (71%)’.

Antonio Galloni (Vinous) called it ‘fabulous’ and gave it 93-95 points. For him, the 2021 was ‘one of the finest vintages I can remember tasting’.

William Kelley (Wine Advocate) scored it 91-93+ points, commenting that ‘there’s no question that it’s one of the Médoc’s most interesting white wines’.

The wine also received 91-93+ from Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW (The Wine Independent) and 97-98 points from James Suckling.

Fair Value analysis

The 2021 is the highest-scoring Cos d’Estournel and commands a small premium on most recent vintages apart from 2016.

Buyers looking for value might consider the 92-point 2018 and 2019 vintages, which are available at a 24.6% and 22.9% discount respectively.
