Château Suduiraut 2021 released En Primeur

  • Château Suduiraut 2021 has been released at £713 per 12×75.
  • The wine has 93-95 points from Neal Martin.
  • The 2019 is one of the best value vintages on the market today.

As part of this year’s Bordeaux En Primeur campaign, Château Suduiraut 2021 has been released at €60 per bottle ex-négociant, up 42.9% on the 2020’s opening price.

It is being offered by the international trade for £713 per 12×75. The new release is the most expensive Suduiraut on the market, in part due to low production volumes. See more pricing analysis below.

Critics’ scores

Neal Martin (Vinous) awarded today’s release a barrel range of 93-95 points. He called it a ‘fine if inevitable elusive Sauternes’. He added that there are ‘500 cases of the 2021 Suduiraut this year due to acute frost damage’.

Antonio Galloni (Vinous) gave it 95-97 points and said that it is ‘breathtaking’. He also remarked that ‘conditions nearly wiped out the entire crop’.

The wine was among Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW’s favourites, she awarded it 95-97 points. In her tasting note for The Wine Independent, she wrote: ‘The palate shimmers with vibrant citrus and spice flavors, supported by a laser-precise backbone and satiny texture, finishing with fantastic energy. Wow!’

James Suckling was also full of praise and scored it 98-99 points.

Fair Value analysis

The 2021 Suduiraut commands a premium to all previous vintages due to the small quantities made, which were down to just 1 hectolitre per hectare.

Buyers looking for other options might be interested in the 2019, which has 97-points from Martin and is available for half the price of today’s release (£356 per 12×75).

The 2009 also looks attractive. With 98-points, it is the highest scored Suduiraut vintage, has over a decade in bottle, and costs 34.4% less than the 2021.
