Today, Bollinger Grande Année 2014 was released in the UK at £1,050 per 12×75.

Antonio Galloni (Vinous) scored the wine an impressive 98-points. In his tasting note, he said it was ‘stunning’ and ‘one of the best recent editions [he] can remember tasting’.

He noted that ‘the 2014 is a blend taken from 19 villages, 61% Pinot Noir and 39% Chardonnay instead of the more typical 70/30 mix. For the second time in two decades (the first was 2007), Verzenay takes the lead in the Pinots over Aÿ, more or less an inverse from the norm.’

Based on today’s release price, the 2014 is coming to the market slightly above the 2012, which was released in 2020. With a much higher score, followers of Galloni will no-doubt find today’s release compelling, and the wine is already bid on Liv-ex at £468 per 6×75 (£936 per 12×75).

However, the 2012 is generally regarded as a strong vintage. With a score of 95 points from William Kelley (Wine Advocate) – equal to his score for the 2014 – it should not be disregarded.

Buyers looking for other options might want to consider the 2004. Galloni said that it was a ‘beautiful wine with a lot of vintage character’ and scored it 95 points. With 10 years extended bottle ageing, it is currently available at a small premium to today’s release.
