Carmes Haut-Brion 2017 trades at record price

  • Bordeaux, Burgundy and Tuscany improved their weekly share of trade the most.
  • Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion 2017 was this week’s most traded wine by value, selling at a record price.
  • Live bids for the newly released Sassicaia 2019 are now as high as £1,191 per six pack.

Regional trade share this week

Bordeaux enjoyed increased activity for its 2017 and 2016 vintages, which helped boost the region’s share to 34.4%.

Burgundy also improved its share on last week, climbing to 30.2%, led by trade for its most recent vintages, the 2019 and 2018. Last Friday, Neal Martin (Vinous) awarded one of his rare 100-point scores to Domaine de la Romanée-Conti’s newly released 2019 Romanée-Conti.

Another region that increased its share of trade was Tuscany (7.4%), with San Filippo Lucere 2012, Sassicaia 2016 (WA 100-points) and Masseto 2018 seeing the highest demand.

This week’s top traded

Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion 2017 topped this week’s most active wines by value, with a last trade at an all-time high of £940 per 12×75. This represents a 38.9% increase on its release price (£672).

The second most traded wine this week, Salon Le Mesnil-sur-Oger Grand Cru Limited Edition Oenotheque Assortment Case, also set new trading records, with several cases selling at £7,940 per 1×600.

Another Champagne that was highly sought-after was Louis Roederer Cristal 2013. With current bids as high as £1,115 per six pack and offers starting at £1,190, the wine last traded at £2,324 per 12×75.

Weekly recap

Sassicaia 2019 was officially released in the UK yesterday at £1,990 per 12×75. Current live bids on Liv-ex are as high as £1,191 per 6×75, as the 98-point wine has enjoyed immediate market demand.

As Californian wine prices continue to rise, Liv-ex members received an update of highly-rated wines from the region under £800 per case.
