“Believe me, this is a cult wine in the making,” was Jane Anson’s prognosis of the soon-to-be-released “Yjar” 2017, which she scored 98-points.

The brand new wine from Telmo Rodriguez is due to be released through La Place tomorrow (16th September).

The entire production covers just 7,000 bottles; enough to whet the market’s appetite? Or be gobbled up so quickly most people barely knew it was even there?

Anson said it was an “outstanding first outing that you should be following,” and in her new report as a now independent reviewer she named Yjar as the wine to buy this autumn.

Full coverage of the release will be available for members on the Liv-ex website tomorrow.

Spain’s secondary market

Spain’s fine wines have a dedicated and enthusiastic following but their share of the secondary market remains very small.

As we explored in an article last month, Spain’s share of the Rest of the World category is 9% so far this year but just 0.9% of the total market.

There are currently just over 170 LIVE offers for Spanish wines on the Exchange for multiple pack sizes and formats.

These include offers from Spain’s leading estates such as Vega Sicilia, Dominio de Pingus, Marqués de Murrieta, La Rioja Alta, López de Heredia and Remelluri – Telmo Rodriguez’s flagship domain.
