Petrolo Galatrona 2019 has been released at €55 per bottle ex-négociant, up 5.8% on the 2018 (€52).
The wine is being offered internationally for £864 per 12×75, up 2.8% on the 2018’s release price (£840). Production is about 30,000 bottles.
The 2019 comes in a special commemorative bottle to mark the 25th anniversary of the wine.
Critical opinion
The 2019 Petrolo Galatrona received 99-points from James Suckling. He described it as “muscular, yet agile […] pure and poised”.
Jane Anson rated the wine 94-points. She liked the “rough grain to the tannins that adds a seductive contrast to luscious raspberry and blackberry coulis” and said that “there is plenty of freshly cut rosemary, with the freshness of the Chianti hills”.
Where is the value?
The 2016 vintage stands out with 98-points from The Wine Advocate and is 19.8% less expensive than the new release.
The 2013 also looks attractive, boasting 97-points and available for £700 per case.
