By September 1, 2021Fine Wine Market, Releases, USA
  • The 2018 Inglenook Rubicon has been released internationally for £1,452 (12×75)
  • A wine with “oodles of freshness” according to the Wine Advocate.
  • The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon and “Blancaneaux” have also been released.

The 2018 Inglenook Rubicon has been released via La Place de Bordeaux for €115 per bottle. This is an increase of 4.5% on the price of the 2017 (€110/bt).

The wine is being offered internationally for £1,452 per 12×75, an increase of almost 1% on the current Market Price of the 2017, £1,440.

Critical opinion

The 2018 is “a winner from Inglenook,” said Antonio Galloni at Vinous. He scored the new release 94-points (just down from the 95 he gave the 2017), saying buyers should “expect a decidedly laid back style for the year”.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW at the Wine Advocate likewise scored the 2018 Rubicon 94-points. She said that the “full-bodied palate has tons of juicy black fruit layers, supported by fine-grained tannins and oodles of freshness, finishing long and fragrant”.

James Suckling gave the highest score of 97-points, noting its “finesse” and “tension”.

Fair value

The 2018 is only very slightly more expensive than the 2017, in what has been a very well-scored vintage for Napa wines.

That said, there are several back vintages that look good value by comparison. The 2015 carries a score of 94-points from the Wine Advocate and is currently 17% less expensive with a Market Price of £1,191 (12×75).

Also less expensive are the 20162014 and 2012 which all have a score of 95. The 2016 in particular at the same price as the 2015 looks compelling.

Other wines

The 2018 Rubicon was released alongside the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon and 2019 Blancaneaux. The former was released for €47 a bottle and the latter for €36/bt.
