Liv-ex invests in its Market Data & Insights with new hires.

London, UK: Liv-ex today announces a new chapter for its market leading Insights product, with the hiring of Rupert Millar as Managing Editor and Felicity Carter as Editorial Consultant.

After 20 years of building the global marketplace for wine, Liv-ex data has become the industry benchmark. Not only does its data help merchant members value their (and their client’s) stock and make informed trading decisions, but it is also widely distributed by the trade press and critics portals. Liv-ex’s benchmark index, the Liv-ex Fine Wine 100 is also quoted on Bloomberg and Refinitiv (formerly Thompson Reuters) terminals.

The database is unique in that it is built upon real-time wholesale market bids, offers and transactions amongst its 500+ wholesale merchant members across 44 countries, and importantly, it is entirely independent. The database runs to 750m lines of current and historical price points, covering 250,000 wines.

It is upon this database that Liv-ex Insights have been built. These insights include regular market updates and Fair Value analysis for Liv-ex members, along with En Primeur coverage and regional reports for the wider wine audience. Together, Millar and Carter will build upon these Insights in response to a growing demand from members, growers and collectors alike.

Rupert Millar is taking on the role of Managing Editor at Liv-ex effective the 15th February 2021. Millar is joining Liv-ex from the B2B wine industry publication The Drinks Business, where he worked for 11 years, eventually as Fine Wine Editor and Editor of The Drinks Business Asia. Millar will be bringing his extensive reporting skills and deep understanding of the fine wine market to expand and develop Liv-ex’s market-leading insights.

Millar said that “having followed and reported on fine wines extensively over the past 11 years, I am absolutely thrilled to be working at the epicenter of the fine wine world with a company I have long-admired”.

Felicity Carter will be joining Liv-ex as Editorial Consultant effective the 22nd February 2021. Carter spent the past 12 years as Editor in Chief at Meininger’s Wine Business International, an English-language magazine published by Meininger Verlag, one of Germany’s oldest publishing houses. Prior to that, Carter wrote for The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age newspapers in Australia. She began her career as an advertising copywriter for blue chip agencies.

“I am so excited to be working with a company as highly respected as Liv-ex. The team has an unrivalled knowledge of the fine wine market and it’s a professional pleasure to play a role in communicating that to a worldwide audience,” said Carter.

Both will report to Justin Gibbs, Liv-ex Director. Justin co-founded Liv-ex with James Miles in 2000, starting with a group of 10 founding members in London. Their vision remains unchanged – to make fine wine trading more transparent, efficient and safe for the benefit of the industry as a whole. As the business and the market have grown, Liv-ex has become uniquely positioned to report on the fine wine market with an independent perspective. Increasingly Liv-ex members are demanding meaningful insights that they can then share with their collectors. Justin says, “It’s an exciting time for Liv-ex’s insight offering, and we are thrilled to welcome Felicity and Rupert to the team and eagerly await what lies ahead.”
