Beaucastel, Chateauneuf Du Pape Hommage J Perrin 2018 has been released at €220 per bottle ex-négociant, down 18.5% on the 2017 release (€270). The wine is being offered by the international trade at £2,700 per 12×75, a 15.6% decrease from the 2017 opening price of £3,200 per case.

The Wine Advocates’ Joe Czerwinkski awarded the wine a barrel range of 98-100, slightly edging out the 2017 (97-100). He described the newest release as “full bodied but incredibly silky, combining great purity, richness and length into a seamless elegant package that should give immense pleasure for decades to come”.

Jeb Dunnuck gave a 96-98, noting “it’s a brilliant wine that was compared to the 2001 by Marc Perrin”. The 2018 currently sits at a 10% discount to the 99-point 2001.

Josh Raynolds, writing for Vinous, gave a 95-98, saying the wine “blends richness and finesse with a deft hand and finished incredibly long and precise, with youthfully firm tannins adding shape and final grip”.

The 2018 comes to the market amidst a number of high scoring vintages. The 2009, 2012, and 2016 have all been scored 99 points with the former two at a discount to today’s release and the latter at a premium. Followers of the Wine Advocate and those confident that the 2018 will fall into the upper range of its barrel score, will find value in today’s release.
