Talking Trade – Haut Brion 2013 most active

  • Haut Brion 2013 leads weekly trade by value
  • Neal Martin on Bordeaux 2015
  • Top 10 traded wines by value in 2019

Bordeaux’s share by value jumped to 68.4%, helped by very active ‘off-vintage’ trade in the First Growths. The Liv-ex 50, which tracks their daily price movements, gained 0.2% to close at 348.3 on Thursday.

Italy and the Rhone also improved on last week. The former was largely pushed by the Super Tuscans Sassicaia, Solaia and Masseto. Meanwhile, Burgundy and Champagne’s share dipped to 15.6% and 3.1% respectively.

The most active wines this week all came from Bordeaux. Haut Brion 2013 was in the top spot – it is the cheapest First Growth of any vintage money can buy.

Two vintages of Lafite Rothschild also featured – 2008 and 2003. The latter was highly praised by Robert Parker, who said the 100-point wine “comes as close to perfection as any of the great Lafites made over the past three decades”.

For the first time, Neal Martin scored the Bordeaux 2015 vintage for Vinous in a report published earlier this week. You can find out more about his favourite wines and his overall thoughts on the vintage here.
