Last week, Champagne’s share of trade by value reached a record high of 33.3%, helped by active trading of the 2006 vintage. This week the region continued its dominant streak, claiming a 21.2% share. Though slightly down on last week, Champagne is still well above its share for May (4.9%).
Bordeaux (55.5%), Italy (1.9%), the Rhone (1.9%), USA (1%) and the Others category (2.4%) were all up on last week, while Burgundy (11.3%) dipped slightly.
The Liv-ex 50 closed the week on 347.2, up 0.19%.
Louis Roederer Cristal 2006 was the most active wine for the second week in a row. It was closely followed by two First Growths: Margaux 2012 and Latour 2009.
Margaux 2012 last traded at £3,614 per 12×75, up 29% on its release price of £2,800, while Latour 2009 traded at £9,350 per 12×75. The latter was scored 100 points by Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW (Wine Advocate) back in March. In her tasting note, she said it finished “very long and wonderfully minerally”.
