Trade was up by value this week as the trade returned from Vinexpo in Bordeaux. The region itself saw a boost in trade, up from 51.2% to 53.7%, although still below its April average (62.2%).
Burgundy was also active this week, up to 29.5%. Still, for some to rise, others must fall, and Italy took the hit this week. The region fell from 14% to 5.7%. The Rhone also dipped slightly to 4.8%.
The top traded wines this week were mostly from Bordeaux, with Lafite’s second wine, Carruades Lafite, taking the top spot. The 2016 vintage last traded for £2,462 per 12×75.
Margaux 2015 was in second place. The First Growth grabbed headlines back in 2017 when it announced that the wine would be released in a commemorative bottle dedicated to the late Paul Pontallier who died in 2015. Since the announcement, the wine has seen a flurry of secondary market activity. It last traded on Liv-ex for £11,200 per 12×75, nearly three times its release price of £4,250.
Following the Wine Advocate’s announcement last week that Robert Parker was officially retiring, two wines that he had previously scored 100 points were also among the top traded wines on Liv-ex this week. Mission Haut Brion 2009 and Latour 2009 last traded at £4,400 and £9,680 per 12×75 respectively.

This week’s En Primeur releases
Following what seemed like a trickle of releases over the past few weeks, the En Primeur campaign has now begun to steam-roll ahead. A number of chateaux released their wines this week, including Pontet Canet, Domaine Chevalier, Rauzan Segla and Canon. As always, you can catch-up on all the releases via our Bordeaux 2018 pages.
