Amidst the Bordeaux 2018 campaign, Taylor’s and Symington Family Estates initiated the release of the newly declared 2017 Port vintage – just one year after the release of the 2016s. On average, the 2017s were offered at 6.9% premium to the 2016s.
However, consecutive vintages are a rare and remarkable occurrence. In his recent report on the 2017 Port vintage, James Suckling noted that Symington’s “grape yields were down 20% compared to the 10-year average”.
Having tasted ten Vintage Ports from Symington’s and Quinta do Noval, Suckling also commented that overall the 2017s “show impressive concentration” and “are certainly outstanding quality”. Suckling awarded potential 100 points to all four Symington’s signature wines.
