Issan 2018 released

Issan 2018 has been released at €45.60 per bottle ex-negociant, up 8.6% on the 2017 release (€42). It is being offered by the trade for £564 per 12×75, up 9.5% on the 2017 release of £515 per case.

Critical reception for this year’s Issan has been positive. Antonio Galloni (Vinous) said that “the 2018 d’Issan possesses off the charts richness and fabulous intensity” and scored it 92-95 points.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW (Wine Advocate) awarded the wine 94-96 points. In her tasting note she said that “it has a great core of muscular fruit with firm, fine-grained tannins, with nice freshness, finishing layered with mineral notions”.

James Suckling noted that “the cashmere texture of the tannins is wonderful in this” and gave a the wine barrel range of 95-96 points.

Prices for Issan are 58% correlated to our ‘Benchmark Critic’ series. Based on today’s release price, the wine is coming to the market either slightly above or below the line implied by our ‘Fair Value’ methodology depending on your critic of choice. Followers of Lisa Perrotti-Brown and James Suckling will no-doubt be excited by this release.

Buyers looking for other options may wish to consider the 2012 which has several years in bottle and is available at an 16% discount to today’s release. The 2016 vintage also looks attractive.
