Haut Batailley 2018 released

By May 7, 2019Bordeaux 2018

Haut Batailley 2018 has been released at €44.40 per bottle ex-negociant, up 5.7% on the 2017 release (€42). It is expected to be released for £520 per 12×75, up 5% on the 2017 release of £495 per case.

Haut Batailley was purchased by the Cazes family, owners of Lynch Bages, in early 2017. The estate’s 2016 vintage has not yet been released.

Antonio Galloni (Vinous) described the 2018 Haut Batailley as being “powerful” and gave a barrel range of 89-92. Lisa Perrotti-Brown (Wine Advocate) agreed that “there is density, weight and lift with soft, luxurious, almost cultured tannins”. She awarded the wine 92-94 points.

James Suckling added: “I can’t remember a Haut-Batailley this tannic, yet the tannins are savory and very ripe with beauty and purity”. He awarded a barrel range of 94-95 points.

This year’s Haut Batailley is coming to the market above a number of recent vintages currently available. Buyers looking for value may want to consider the 2015, which was awarded 92-94 points in barrel by Neal Martin and is available at a 36% discount to today’s release.
