By May 3, 2019Bordeaux 2018

Clos Marquis 2018 has been released at €38.40 per bottle ex-negociant, up 10.3% on the 2017 release (€34.80). It is being offered by the international trade for £465 per 12×75, up 9% on the 2017 release price of £425 per case.

The volume of stock coming to market is down 50% on last year.

Antonio Galloni (Vinous) scored the wine a barrel range of 90-93 points and said it was a “powerful, heady Saint-Julien”.

Lisa Perotti-Brown (Wine Advocate) agreed that it was “built like a brick house” and added that it has “firm, grainy tannins and bold freshness”. She awarded the wine 92-94 points.

James Suckling added that it was “layered” and said the “violet undertones” are “wonderful”. He scored the wine 94-95 points.

Buyers looking for value may want to consider the 2016. Neal Martin scored the wine 94 points back in January and said, “the palate is rounded and quite sumptuous on the entry, and beautifully balanced, with a fine bead of acidity”. It is currently available at a 9% discount to today’s release.
