Calon Segur 2018 released

By May 7, 2019Bordeaux 2018

Calon Segur 2018 has been released at €72 per bottle ex-negociant, up 20% on the 2017 release (€60). It is being offered by the international trade for £864 per 12×75, up 17% on the 2017 release of £738 per case. This is a new record release price for the Chateaux.

This year’s Calon Segur has been well-received by critics. Antonio Galloni (Vinous) scored the wine 96-99 points and said it was “a headspinning wine. Done miss it!”. Lisa Perotti-Brown (Wine Advocate) noted that it was “a decadent expression” and awarded 96-98 points.

Jean-Marc Quarin and Jeb Dunnuck both awarded the wine a perfect score. Quarin scored the wine 100 points and said he instantly thought of 1982, while Dunnuck said it was “in the running for the wine of the vintage in Saint-Estèphe (if not the whole Medoc)” and awarded a barrel range of 97-100.

Liv-ex members also ranked Calon Segur 2018 as the 8th best wine of the vintage.

Buyers confident in the quality of this year’s Calon Segur will no-doubt find value in the release.

Those perusing back vintages might be tempted by the 2009 vintage. With several years in bottle and 94+ points from Robert Parker, the wine is available at a slight discount to today’s release.
