Clos Apalta 2015 has been released at €65 per bottle ex-negociant, up 10.1% on the 2014 release (€59). It is being offered by the international trade at £950 per 12×75, an increase of 20.3% on the 2014 release price of £790.
James Suckling is the only major critic to have scored the 2015 vintage so far. He awarded the wine 100-points, commenting that it is even ‘more powerful than the 2014’, which shared the same score. He further praised its ‘incredible character’ that is ‘formed, sculptured yet soulful’. The higher price thus correlates to the wine’s impressive qualities.
Another interesting vintage is the 2005 (95 points) which was named Wine Spectator ‘Wine of the Year’ and has been traded at a similar price to the 2015 (£948 per 12×75).
With a perfect critic score, Clos Apalta 2015 may appeal to private collectors and followers of James Suckling alike. Yet, the equally-scored 2014 can still be found in the market and is available at a 22.1% discount to today’s release. Score-conscious buyers have plenty to choose from.
