The Liv-ex 1000 index gains 1.1% in May

The Liv-ex 1000 index – the broadest measure of the market – gained 1.1% in May to close on 340.95. This is another record high for the index, which has hit several all-time highs since the UK voted to leave the EU in June 2016. The market received a boost from weaker Sterling in the wake of the Brexit vote, with Euro and Dollar-based buyers taking advantage of the favourable currency situation.

The Liv-ex 100 and the Liv-ex 50 also increased this month, up 0.5% and 0.3% respectively.

Within the Liv-ex 1000, the performance of the sub-indices were mostly positive. The Bordeaux Legends 50 was the best performing index in May, up 3.4%.

However, as the chart below shows, the Burgundy 150 remains the top performer over one year. The index is up an impressive 23%, while the Rest of the World 50 and the Bordeaux Legends 50 are up 9.2% and 10.7% respectively.

The Italy 100 was the only index to fall this month, down 0.7%.
