Issan 2017

Issan 2017 has been released at €42 per bottle ex-negociant, a 10.3% decrease on the 2016 opening price of €46.80. It is being offered by UK merchants for £515 per case.

Neal Martin awarded a score of 90-92 points, noting that this vintage “continues a purple patch for this historic Margaux.” His colleague Antonio Galloni was equally impressed with Issan, praising it as a wine of “finesse, persistence and nuance”. He scored the wine 89-92 points.

Today’s release is at a slight premium to the price implied by Liv-ex’s Fair Value methodology. Those perusing back vintages have an obvious choice to make between this vintage and the 2014, which has the same score but is over £100 cheaper.  Buyers also might focus their attention on the 2012. Robert Parker upgraded this wine from 88 points to 95 in 2015, observing that he had initially “underrated this wine dramatically”.
