Figeac 2017

Figeac 2017 was released today at €120 per bottle ex-negociant, down 20% on the 2016 release (€150). It is being offered by the international trade at £1,476 per 12×75, a decrease of 20.6% on the 2016 release price of £1,860 per case.

Overall, critics have been pleased with Figeac 2017. Neal Martin, who awarded a score of 93-95 points, noted that the wine was “an impressive follow up to that mighty pair (2015 and 2016) that has really put Figeac back on the map.” His colleague Antonio Galloni scored the wine slightly higher at 94-97 points. He praised Figeac 2017 as “a wine of total harmony”.

Both Antonio Galloni and Chris Kissack have noted in their tasting notes that the overall Figeac harvest was down 50-55% on 2016 due to frost.

Today’s release price is quite delicately poised. On the one hand Figeac is a brand whose profile is rising and like Canon has gained followers thanks to the success and high quality of the 2015 and 2016 vintages. On the other, the obvious buying decision in lieu of this vintage would be the higher scoring, cheaper 2014 vintage.
