By May 22, 2018Bordeaux 2017, Releases

Monbousquet 2017 has been released at €36 per bottle ex-negociant, a 3% discount on the 2016 price of €37.2. It is expected to be offered at a recommended retail price of £460 per 12×75, an increase of 3% in sterling terms on the 2016 release of £445 per case.

The volume of stock being offered has been reduced by 60% on last year, largely due to frost.

Critical reception for Monbousquet 2017 has varied. Writing for Vinous, Neal Martin scored the wine 87-89 points and said that “despite their efforts this vintage is compromised by the frost and should be consumed over the next four or five years”.

Roger Voss, on the other hand, awarded the wine 92-94 points and described the wine as “a bold wine, full of structure and dense tannins”. He goes on to say that “this producer is now producing great wines with richness and concentration”.

Monbousquet – Market price vs Score

Today’s release of £460 per 12×75 is a significant premium to the price implied by Liv-ex’s Fair Value methodology. Buyers looking for value may wish to consider the higher scored 2014 (91 NM), which is available at a 24% discount to today’s release. A number of other vintages also look attractive.
