Grand Puy Ducasse 2017

Grand Puy Ducasse 2017 has been released at €25.2 per bottle ex-negociant, down 12.5% on the release price of the 2016 (€28.8). It is being offered by the international trade at £308 per 12×75. In sterling terms, this is 12% lower than the opening price for the 2016.

Critics have mostly scored the wine in the late 80s /early 90s. James Suckling, whose score of 91-92 was at the upper end, commented that it “shows a serious concentration of fruit for the vintage”. Neal Martin awarded it a lower 88-90 points, noting that “There is moderate intensity here, though it does not manifest the complexity of the top tier Pauillac”.

Buyers not impressed by this release might consider the higher scoring 2015 vintage. It is available at a discount to today’s release and in the words of Neal Martin is “one of the best vintages I have encountered in recent years.”
