Canon Gaffeliere 2017

Canon Gaffeliere 2017 has been released at €55.20 per bottle ex-negociant, a 16.4% decrease on the 2016 release price of €66. It is being offered by UK merchants for £650 per 12×75, down 16.1% in sterling terms on the 2016 release of £775 per case.

It is being reported that volumes are down 55% on last year due to frost.

Critical reception for this vintage of Canon Gaffeliere has been mixed. It is one of the most divisive wines for the critics at Vinous. Antonio Galloni awarded the wine 92-95 points, praising it as “ wonderfully fresh and nuanced, with less muscle than in the past and noticeably more finesse.” Whereas his colleague Neal Martin said that “despite the Herculean efforts I still feel that the second-generation fruit discombobulates what could have been a better wine.” He scored it 87-89 points.

Today’s release of £650 per 12×75 is a significant premium to the price implied by Liv-ex’s Fair Value methodology. Followers of Neal Martin could consider the 2015 vintage, which has a higher score of 95 points and is available at a discount of around 4% to the 2017.
