Talking Trade – Avalanche of Bordeaux 2015 scores

  • Bordeaux trade increasing as 2015s hit the market
  • Liv-ex 100 down for the third consecutive month
  • Antonio Galloni and Neal Martin Bordeaux 2015 in bottle scores
  • Bordeaux 2017 production figures

Bordeaux’s trade share picked up for the fourth week in a row, as a combination of in-bottle scores from Lisa Perotti-Brown, Antonio Galloni and Neal Martin of the 2015 vintage helped to encourage trade.

‘Other’ regions including Australia and Spain had a relatively strong week, taking 3.4% and 2.8% of trade respectively.

The Liv-ex 100 – the industry benchmark – fell 0.1% in February, the third month in the row that the index has fallen. There is also some good news: the Liv-ex 1000 – the broadest measure of the market – rose by a healthy 1.14%.

This weeks’s most active wine was Cheval Blanc 2015, recently awarded 100 points by Lisa Perotti-Brown. Although finding the bid in volume after the score was announced, there has yet to be any discernible change in Market Price.

Bordeaux 2015 in-bottle

On Monday Antonio Galloni published his Bordeaux 2015 in-bottle scores on Vinous. He scored two wines 100 points: Canon and Vieux Chateau Certan.

Neal Martin’s scores were published on The Wine Advocate yesterday as an article. Liv-ex offered a summary of these here, and you can also find the full article here.

Bordeaux 2017 Production figures

Yesterday Liv-ex published Gavin Quinney’s overview of production figures from the Bordeaux 2017 vintage. The headline figure is that the 2017 crop was 40% lower than 2016 and 33% lower than the 10-year average. However, some left-bank appellations including Pauillac, St-Estephe and St-Julien all produced more wine in 2017 than their five year average.
